Probably Best Sub-9 Inch Android Tablet Now
First, the customer service I received from Giztop was excellent – both in answering questions before the order was placed, and in actually delivering the Legion Y700, which took less than a week to get to me in Bangkok. Second, I am not a gamer. I bought this tablet to replace my wonderful, but aging, Huawei 8.4 inch Android tablet. So I don’t do gaming (unless you count Scrabble), but what I do on my Legion Y700 tablet is read ebooks and emagazines, write emails, surf websites, watch videos, stream newscasts, and more. This seems to be the best sub-9 inch Android tablet in the world at present.
I do love this tablet – there are no deal killers, but there are a number of annoyances that buyers should be aware of. Setting it up was easy, as English and Google Play were pre-installed. A fingerprint reader would be nice, not just face recognition. The tablet is a little heavy, likely due to required cooling components for gaming. Some things are only in Chinese language. An annoying message “Browse Legion Wiki” pops up frequently, and I would like to stop that. Likewise, there is a Swipe Left screen, which I would like to disallow. The blue light filter tool, which is part of the OS, does not work right. I was able to download from Google Play a subscription blue light filter tool that does not access the OS blue light filter tool. This works quite well, though frequently crashes; I generally keep the blue light filter on at all times, so this is important for me. Finally, I have not been able to figure out how to register this tablet with Lenovo. The serial number I input in my Lenovo account is not recognized.
I understood that purchasing this tablet entailed some risk, since it could not be fixed under warranty in Thailand, where I live, or anywhere else in the world, except in China. Gizmo said that if I did have a warranty repair issue, I could return the tablet to them and they would fix it. I did have a scare, my tablet crashed and then wouldn’t turn on. Luckily a local repair shop showed me how to do a soft reset, by holding the power key down at the same time as the down volume key for 10 seconds – and this worked.
So, if you are looking for a good small Android tablet, go ahead, and order it from Giztop. And if you can help me resolve any of the issues I noted, please tell me!
