OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone a few weeks back in China. The flagship smartphone boards the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with up to 12GB of RAM. It has all the prominent sensors and also bags the Widevine L1 support. Still, some 8 Pro users are reporting an issue that limited their HD content streaming.
Has OnePlus disabled HD content streaming on the flagship OnePlus 8 Pro?
Several users from the OnePlus community stumbled upon the issue and reported that their OnePlus device is not letting them stream HD content from Netflix and other streaming services.
After digging on the issue, some peeps from the OnePlus community learned that the Widevine support on their device has been changed restricting their HD streaming.
For those who don’t know, Widevine is a system from Google based on the DRM platform that protects the security of several services. It also enables smooth streaming for smartphones. Mostly, budget smartphones posses Widevine L3 security and some of the top devices bag the Widevine L1 security level.
The OnePlus 8 Pro users reported that those devices running OxygenOS 10.5.5 or above have Widevine L3 on their 8 Pro. This is probably a bug as after the update, users went down to Widevine L3 from the Widevine L1 that makes HD content streaming possible from apps like Netflix.
Without the Widevine L1 system, users are left with standard Non-HD content streaming. This bug has arrived in only some of the OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones. Users don’t have to worry about the bug as it will probably get fixed after OnePlus pushes its next bug fix update.
Once, OnePlus shares some deets on the same, we’ll be the first one to notify you.
