Xiaomi aren’t ones to shy away from patents these days, and the company has now come in with a brand new one for a smartphone with a rotating camera. It’s once again an attempt to create a truly seamless full screen experience.
The patent with the license number CN 305868884 was applied for by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. almost a year ago. The CNPA, the Chinese Authority for approving patents, only published the patent today, as reported by MyFixGuide.
From the images, we can clearly see a an interesting looking rotating camera module, that can apparently rotate 360 degrees. This allows the camera to peek over the rear of the device to the front, which we assume allows the device to take selfies with no front facing camera.
Honestly this patent seems a little silly considering that we already have pop-up camera, and we really wouldn’t mind if Xiaomi just binned this one. Patents don’t always see the light of day after, and we wouldn’t be surprised if this were one of those examples.
