Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition Review: A Sports-Centric Smartwatch With 117 Sports Mode, Blood Oxygen Monitoring And More Hues

The latest entrant in Xiaomi’s well-received Mi Watch Color series smartwatches dubbed the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition has been launched in China. The company offers three clearly-divided series of wearable devices including Xiaomi’s smart wearable, Xiaomi watch, Xiaomi bracelet, and the Xiaomi watch Color.

Each of the aforesaid product lines has different positioning versions. The Chinese tech behemoth covers all products ranging from entry-level to high-end flagships. The Mi Watch Color has been one of the company’s well-received devices.

Xiaomi recently took the wraps off the latest version of the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color dubbed the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition, which, as the name suggests, targets sports enthusiasts. An ideal smartwatch for sports scenes, the device integrates blood oxygen monitoring function as well. You can now purchase it from Giztop.

The recently unveiled Mi Watch Color Sports Edition comes in an entirely different package from its sibling, the Mi Watch Color. It uses fluorescent colors so that can users can understand its positioning without any sort of confusion. Moreover, the fluorescent green colorway gives the impression that the color of the watch is green as well.

The Mi Watch Color Sports Edition is up for grabs in three eye-catching color options including Elegant Black, Space Blue, and Ivory White. There are three extra straps that come in olive green, vibrant yellow, and retro red. These straps are made using high-quality silicone material, and the surface has twill lines that accentuate the sense of movement.

Theoretically, the straps of both watches should be universal, but when it comes to sports scenes, silicone is the preferred material because it offers superior comfort and handles sweat better than most other materials used for making straps. Note that the disassembly method of this strap isn’t different from most similar products.

Replacing the strap is a cakewalk. The Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition sports an easy-to-read 1.39-inch round AMOLED screen with a high screen resolution of 454×454 pixels. Despite high brightness, the display effect is quite delicate. The content of the screen is easily viewable even outdoors.

The 2.5D arc surface treatment around the surface glass gives it a textured appearance. The 46mm dial may look slighter bigger on thinner wrists. The Mi Watch Color Sports Edition doesn’t retain the scale design that encompasses the screen due to its positioning.

It also doesn’t feature stainless steel bezel, which brings the weight down to just 32.5 grams. The most notable difference is that the watch is housed in an aluminum body, rather than stainless steel.

There are no prizes for guessing that the Sports variants, adopts a more sporty design. It also supports 120 dials, and there is a possibility that Xiaomi might make more dials available in the near future.

Given that it is a sport-centric smartwatch, the Mi Watch Color Sports version boasts an array of newfangled features that come in handy at sports scenes. It comes with a new blood oxygen saturation test and generates the test result in just 8 to 10 seconds. The heart rate monitoring is on 24 hours, so there is no separate button to test the wearer’s heart rate.

The heart rate screen shows historical values in line graph form, along with the current value. In addition to that, Xiaomi has increased the sport mode from the 10 in the previous version, to 17, and there are a hundred extended sport types including hiking, elliptical trainer, triathlon. A slew of other targeted categories have been assigned corresponding options.

The Mi Watch Color Sports Version packs an upgraded positioning chip. Aside from the usual GPS and GLONASS, the device supports Galileo and Beidou satellite systems for enhanced movement trajectory and mileage accuracy.

Other non-sports-related functions include multi-function NFC, multi-function NFC, sleep monitoring, Xiao Ai (voice assistant), and more. The Mi Watch Color Sports Edition includes functions available in conventional products while adding a myriad of sports-centric features such as blood oxygen saturation detection function.

The Mi Watch Color Sports Edition features 5ATM water resistance and is compatible with Android 4.4 devices and up, or iOS 10.0 and up. It is backed by a robust 420mAh battery that Xiaomi says lasts for about 16 days with typical usage. You can extend the battery life to 22 days by using the battery saver mode. In the outdoor sports mode, it will last for 50 hours.

The lightweight dial makes it easier to be worn around your wrist while exercising, and the reduced price of 699 yuan gives makes it even more appealing for those who engage in sports activities.

The watch went up for pre-order in China on Oct. 21, and you can head straight to this link to purchase the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition from Giztop for $129, and even chose between three color options including Blue, Black, and Ivory White.
