Sony this week took wraps off a few Xperia handsets in selected markets. One of those handsets dubbed Sony Xperia 1 III was also said to launch in the Chinese market soon. Now, the company has confirmed the launch of the Xperia 1 III to be scheduled for May 20 in the Chinese market.
JD.com, one of the most popular Chinese shopping portals has already listed the device on pre-registrations. Sadly, the registration page doesn’t reveal the pricing of the smartphone, however, the smartphone has been listed on a Russian store for RUB 99,990(which is roughly 1,302). We can expect the flagship smartphone to cost similarly in the Chinese region.
In terms of the specs, the Xperia 1 III comes with a taller body form factor. It has a 6.5-inch OLED display with a 4K resolution. It has a 120Hz refresh rate and a wide 21:9 aspect ratio.
At the front, it sports a single camera setup and has a triple rear camera system at the rear. The rear setup is led by a 12-megapixel primary lens, another 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and, 12-megapixel periscope camera, and lastly a 3D TOF sensor. The camera can shoot 4K videos and also has a slow-motion video recording option.
Under the shell is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset which is paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Interestingly, Sony has also provided a memory expansion slot for additional storage up to 1TB. It houses a 4,500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging technology. It has a side-facing fingerprint scanner for security and it runs on Android 11 out of the box. It also has IP68 water and dust resistance ratio and also supports NFC, Hi-Res 360-degree audio.
