In the past few weeks, the market has witnessed two affordable flagship killers dubbed the Redmi K40 from Xiaomi and GT Neo from Realme. Both the phones offer incredible value for the asking price. In this piece, we will be comparing both the devices based on the specs concluding on which one offers the best value for your money.
Design and Display
The Realme GT Neo has a vivid design with a fancy color scheme. On the other hand, the Redmi K40 carries the standard K40-series design with a monotone look.
The Realme GT Neo comes with a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED panel, whereas, the Redmi K40 features a larger 6.67-inch Super AMOLED screen. As per a layman’s view, the only noticeable difference is the screen size. If we dive deep, the K40 actually has a better screen with its 1300 nits of peak brightness and HDR10+ support.
It also gets Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection over the unknown glass on the Realme GT Neo. However, the GT Neo has a higher 409 PPI screen density as compared to the 395 PPI on the K40. The GT Neo’s display also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner offering added security. A high 120Hz refresh rate support is present on both handsets.
The Realme GT Neo has a triple rear camera system driven by a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro unit. The K40 has a 48MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide unit, and a 5MP macro sensor.
On paper, the Realme GT Neo seems to boast a better camera system as compared to the Redmi K40. However, it’s not the case in terms of the front camera. The K40 features a superior 20MP selfie camera with a slightly wider area of capture over the 16MP front camera on the GT Neo.
Both the phones can shoot 4K videos but the GT Neo can record at up to 60fps, whereas, the K40 is limited to 4K 30fps. The phones have gyro-based Electronic Image Stabilization for a steady video.
Raw Hardware and Battery
In terms of the raw hardware, both phones power a chipset from different manufacturers. The Realme GT Neo has the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, whereas the Redmi K40 fuels the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC.
Again, on paper, the Dimensity 1200 is based on a more efficient 6nm process as compared to the 7nm process of the Snapdragon 870. However, the Snapdragon 870 is more powerful than the Dimensity 1200 chipset. The major area where the 6nm Dimensity 1200 will shine is the efficiency of the battery.
Talking about batteries, the Redmi K40 has a 4,520mAh battery and the GT Neo has a 4,500mAh cell. Even though the battery capacity in GT Neo is less, it will still provide better battery life, thanks to the 6nm process and a slightly smaller screen.
The Realme GT Neo gets a 50W fast charging support as compared to the 33W fast charging technology on the Redmi K40. The GT Neo runs on the Realme UI 2.0, whereas, the K40 boots on the MIUI 12.
