Redmi K30S Ultra Review: Massive Display, More Power And A New Back Cover Design

Redmi K30S Ultra: Xiaomi celebrated its tenth anniversary by announcing a myriad of amazing products during a virtual event on Aug. 11. Among other hotly-anticipated devices, the company confirmed that it will be unveiling the Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition smartphone on that day.

The company later announced that it will also release the equally anticipated Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition smartphone through the same event. Although both smartphones contain the word Supreme Commemorative Edition, there are evident differences between the two. The Redmi K30S Ultra is currently available on Giztop.

While the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition can be touted as an example of Xiaomi’s top-notch craftsmanship, the Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition characterizes the extreme price-performance ratio. Similar products that are closely integrated using special time nodes usually do not have follow-up models, but the Redmi K30S Ultra will be made available in just two months citing the impending Double Eleven shopping event.

    Display

The Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition sports a mammoth 6.67-inch display with a modified full-screen solution and the overall screen specifications. The previous pop-up full screen has been replaced with a more mainstream hole-digging screen.

Moreover, the phone uses an LCD screen with 2400×1080 pixels resolution, 650nit of maximum brightness, and P3 wide color gamut support. The screen is high quality too, JNCD≈0.39, Delta E≈0.63, and the color display are accurate, while the look and feel are more delicate as compared to the OLED screen at similar resolution.

The phone houses light sensors on the front and back of its fuselage for enhanced perception accuracy of ambient light changes. It also supports automatic brightness adjustment to 4096 levels, so the brightness changes will not appear too bright or too dark suddenly.

It supports 144Hz refresh rate, as well as MEMC motion compensation. The phone can automatically adjust in different usage scenarios to offer a smooth experience and longer battery life. Redmi K30S Ultra adopts a side power/fingerprint combo design, and both the speed of unlocking and recognition accuracy is excellent.

    Back Cover Design

Those who have seen the Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition before will be able to instantly spot the difference in the back cover of the Redmi K30S Ultra. The rear camera does not retain the earlier circular design but has changed to a more familiar pattern this year. The camera module is square-shaped and the primary camera at the top is very distinctive.

There are two colors of the fuselage including the Moonlight Silver version and the Interstellar Black alternative. At first glance, the Moonlight Silver version looks similar to the recently launched Mi 10 Guofeng version. It is basically light blue combined with the matte treatment, and it looks quite pretty.

Furthermore, Xiaomi has increased the battery capacity to 5000mAh, but the phone still weighs in at 216 grams. The dimensions are similar to the Redmi K30 Extreme. The commemorative edition’s length is 165.1 mm, width is 76.4 mm, and it is 9.33 mm thick.

The Redmi K30S Ultra, on the other hand, has some noteworthy weight considering that the back cover has been processed to a certain degree, and the corner transitions are rounded as well. Despite packing a 5000mAh large battery, the phone is comfortable to hold.

    Camera Setup and Battery

Upfront, the Redmi K30S Ultra houses a 20MP shooter for selfies and video calling. Moreover, it supports basic functions including face unlocking, and AI beauty selfies, The rear-mounted camera uses a three-shot design of the main camera, ultra-wide-angle lens, and the macro lens.

Just like its predecessor, the Redmi K30S Ultra features a 64MP main camera. Aside from supporting four-in-one 1.6μm large pixels, it can deliver an output of 64 million pixels directly from the hardware. There is a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP macro lens.

The Redmi K30S Ultra packs a powerful Snapdragon 865 processor, which offers two storage combinations including 8GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB (LPDDR5+UFS3 .1). The phone scored 662521 points on AnTuTu, 823812 points on Master Lu with a 144Hz high refresh screen, regardless of daily mobile gaming.

The device draws its juices from a robust 5000mAh battery, which is larger than the one available in its precursor, the Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition, but the fast charging scheme is still 33W. The test uses the original wired charger to charge 12 percent, 10 minutes to 23 percent, 20 minutes to 43 percent, 30 minutes to 63 percent. The phone can be fully charged in 58 minutes.

The 33W fast-charging isn’t quite impressive. The entire charging process does not start to slow down until 50 minutes, which puts the charging speed of the Redmi K30S Ultra on par with some higher-power fast-charging solutions.
