Qualcomm announced the launch of the world’s first 5G and AI platform, the Qualcomm Robotics RB5. So, what exactly is this robot platform, and what does this entail for the future of robotics as a whole?
According to the company, the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform is designed specifically for robots and consists of a large number of hardware, software and development tools.
Before this, robot makers were forced to compile CPUs, GPUs, and other components and then put everything together themselves. Qualcomm hopes to advance and simplify the process by integrating everything, including the chip, SDKs, cameras, AI processors, and even 5G.
The company also said that the platform combines the company’s expertise in 5G and AI, which can help developers and manufacturers build the next generation of robots and drones with high computing power and low power consumption.
In terms of hardware, the platform uses the company’s QRB5165 features Kryo 585 CPUs and the Adreno 650 GPU. For software, it is equipped with SDKs for neural processing, machine vision, positioning, feature recognition, and obstacle detection.
