Earlier this year, Redmi launched the Redmi Note 9 in the Indian and European markets while the Chinese market missed it. Just this week, Poco launched the Poco M3 smartphone in India and Europe While the Note 9 5G and Note 9 4G(Chinese version) were tossed in the homeland China. In this piece, we will compare the Poco M3 to similar-specced Redmi Note 4G and Redmi Note 9 5G.

    Poco M3 Full Specifications

    The Poco M3 comes with a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a Full-HD+(1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution. It is a water-drop notch panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Poco claims that it has an 83.4% screen-to-body ratio, 400 nits brightness, and 395ppi pixel density.

    There is a vertically positioned triple rear camera system holding a 48-megapixel primary lens, a 2-megapixel macro unit, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It can record 1080p videos at 30fps with both the front and rear cameras. The rear module is quite unit as it has a big rectangular area that looks a bit similar to the recently launched OnePlus 8T CyberPunk 2077 Edition.

    Powering the handset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 octa-core chipset which is based on the 11nm process. It has Adreno 610 GPU and is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB, 128GB of onboard storage. It is backed up by a 6,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging technology. It has a Reverse charging feature rated at 2.5W with the help of the Type-C port. Said that it supports OTG device and also has the 3.5mm headphone jack.

    The Redmi Note 4G(Chinese Version) packs a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full-HD+(1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution. It is a water-drop notch panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It has thin bezels on the three sides except for the bottom side. Poco claims that it has an 83.4% screen-to-body ratio, 400 nits brightness, and 395ppi pixel density.

    It has a triple rear camera setup housed in the vertical camera module. The setup is led by a 48-megapixel primary lens, another 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth unit. It can record 1080p videos at 30fps with both the front and rear cameras. The rear module has a different feel and looks protruded from the rest of the back panel.

    The Redmi Note 9 5G has a 6.53-inch punch-hole display with a Full-HD+(1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution. It is an IPS LCD panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Poco claims that it has an 83.6% screen-to-body ratio, 450 nits brightness, and 395ppi pixel density.

    It flaunts a triple-rear camera setup placed in the circular ring-shaped module. It has a 48-megapixel primary lens, another 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a third 2-megapixel macro sensor. It can record 1080p videos at up to 60fps with both the front and rear cameras, and 4k videos at up to 30fps with the rear cameras.

    MediaTek Dimensity 800U(7nm 5G-enabled) is what runs in the background fueling the phone with the help of up to 8GB of RAM. It has 6GB. 8GB RAM and 128GB, and 256GB of internal storage. Backed by a 5,000mAh battery, the phone has an 18W fast charging support and wired Reverse charging support. It has OTG Pendrive support and also has a 3.5mm headphone jack beside the port.

    It has a stereo speaker setup and the fingerprint scanner placed on the right side. It has three color options – Gray, Green, Violet.

    All three phones provide a great value for the price you pay. Ops, wait, rather than apologizing, let me tell you the pricing first. The Poco M3 costs $159, the Redmi Note 9 4G is priced at $179, and Redmi Note 9 5G can be picked up for $239 on the Giztop Shop. With that said, the Poco M3 also has a different design while Note 9 4G has a sub-standard design. If it was between Poco M3 and Note 9 4G, our pick would be the Poco M3 considering its different looking rear design and the clean Poco UI experience. Well if you still want a side-facing fingerprint scanner and features of the MIUI 12 get the Note 9 4G.
