Earlier today, a memo was leaked showing that Carl Pei, one of the founders of OnePlus, has allegedly has left the company after 7 years. This is a huge shake-up for the successful startup, considering how Carl is essentially the face of the company.
This news was first exposed by Reddit user JonSigur, who released a screenshot of what is said to be an internal memo from OnePlus. This information lists the company’s leadership structure, in which Carl Pei is clearly absent.Â

The memo also pointed out that Emily Dai, who was in charge of (or may still be in charge of) OnePlus’ business in India, was recently appointed as the global head of the Nord product line. This is important seeing as Carl was previously in charge of Nord.

According to a report by the technology blog TechCrunch, people familiar with the matter said that Carl will not join Samsung, which he once hoped to learn from. He will start his own hardware company and is in financing negotiations with investors.
Carl himself has not yet commented on his departure, though we’re expecting to see some news from him soon. Hopefully he finds success in other places.
