OnePlus announced a brand strategic collaboration with Hasselblad for its hotly-anticipated OnePlus 9 series. The recently unveiled lineup of smartphones from the Chinese handset maker not only focuses on the screen quality but also highlights image capability.
Before the series’ official launch, OnePlus confirmed this generation of phones will be switching to the ColorOS system. Sticking to its tradition of releasing two models of the first generation of products, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, which are currently available on Giztop.

While the OnePlus 9 Pro has a curved screen, the OnePlus 9 features a flexible straight screen. The size of the flexible straight screen is 6.55 inches, AMOLED material, 2400 X 1080 resolution, 402 ppi, the highest brightness can reach 1100nit. The front is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass.
Moreover, there are light sensors installed on the front and rear of the fuselage, and they support 8192-level automatic brightness adjustment. They have passed HDR10+ certification and Display Mate A+ certification.
The video ultra-definition enhancement and video color enhancement functions appear on the OnePlus 9 phone. The 480p resolution video can be increased to above 1080p with the help of algorithms.

Display Mate rated the screen used by OnePlus 9 Pro as “perfect,” noting that its color accuracy, brightness, reflectivity, etc deliver excellent performance. The Pro variant features a slightly larger screen than the OnePlus 9, at 6.7 inches, using E4 luminescent materials.
It offers 3216 X 1440 pixels resolution, 525 ppi, with a native 10bit color depth and the peak brightness reaches 1400nit. The supported 120Hz refresh rate (2K+120Hz can be turned on at the same time), video over-division, automatic color temperature adjustment, 8192-level automatic brightness adjustment are also available. Moreover, the MEMC video interpolation is retained.
Like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra display, this screen uses LTPO technology. While Samsung lowered the lower limit of the screen refresh rate to 10Hz on the S21 Ultra, OnePlus realized an adaptive refresh rate adjustment from 1Hz to 120Hz for the OnePlus 9 Pro.
The OnePlus 9 Pro can save more power. For gamers, OnePlus has introduced an official game display optimization technology called O-Sync. It is different from G-Sync since its core appeal is to further minimize the screen response time in a bid to improve game sensitivity.
The first batch of games includes Wilderness Fighting, League of Legends (mobile game), Call of Duty, Peace Elite, Glory of Kings, and QQ Speed. Overall, the screen quality of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro is at the top level of the industry.
OnePlus announced a strategic cooperation with Hasselblad during an image conference in Shenzhen earlier this year. OnePlus’ collaboration with Hasselblad focused more on color.
There are three places where the Hasselblad presence can be felt including, Hasselblad Professional Mode, Hasselblad Watermark, and Hasselblad Shutter. The Hasselblad Professional Mode allows you to manually adjust various key parameters including ISO, exposure time, white balance, etc. according to the shooting needs.
In this mode, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro support direct shooting of 12bit color depth DNG RAW format pictures. The watermark style of the OnePlus 9 series adopts the method of OnePlus × Hassdlnlad.
Hasselblad Shutter has two aspects. First off, the virtual shutter button features the same orange paint as the Hasselblad camera, and secondly, the shutter sound effect uses the Hasselblad style.
OnePlus and Hasselblad have done two aspects of work for the imaging color of the OnePlus 9 series. One, it will perform sensor-level color calibration and meet the standards of Hasselblad’s professional medium format cameras, while the other is Color style adjustment.
In a previous interview with Geek Choice, CEO of OnePlus, Liu Zuohu said that it took a few months for OnePlus to reach the ideal level of Hasselblad engineers. There are several aspects such as tuning, brightness, and saturation.
The OnePlus 9 has a 16MP f/2.4 aperture, Sony IMX471 sensor in the front. There’s a triple camera setup at the back, including the main camera, ultra-wide-angle lens, black and white style lens. The main camera is of 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor, ultra-wide-angle uses the Sony IMX766 custom-made by OPPO and Sony, with 50MP.
The Pro variant features the same front camera as the OnePlus 9. At the back, there’s a 48MP f/1.8 aperture, supports OIS optical image stabilization, the sensor model is Sony’s customized IMX789, supports output of 12bit color depth RAW format pictures; ultra-wide-angle lens and black and white style lens is the same as OnePlus 9.

The OnePlus 9 series packs Snapdragon 888 chips, LPDDR5 memory and UFS3.1 flash memory. The OnePlus 9 comes in two storage combinations of 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM, while the OnePlus 9 Pro is available in 8GB RAM+ 128GB ROM, 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM and 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM storage combinations.
OnePlus 9 Pro AnTuTu 8.0 runs a score of 740421 points and 885386 points on Master Lu. The OnePlus 9 series phones have 4500mAh batteries that support 65W wired flash charging, but the OnePlus 9 does not support wireless charging, while the OnePlus 9 Pro supports 50W wireless flash charging.
The original wired charger can charge from 1 – 22 percent in 5 minutes, 44 percent in 10 minutes, 64 percent in 15 minutes, and 81 percent in 20 minutes. It can be charged to 100 percent in 28 minutes.
Through wireless charging, the phone can be charged from 1 – 14 percent in 5 minutes, 27 percent in 10 minutes, 39 percent in 15 minutes, 51 percent in 20 minutes, and 63 percent in 25 minutes. It takes 42 minutes to charge to 100 percent.
