Oneplus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Edition Review: A Breathtaking Phone With Awe-Inspiring Customization

CD Projekt’s much-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 might be delayed, but much to the delight of fans of the upcoming action role-playing video game, OnePlus launched the equally-anticipated OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition in China earlier this month. It is up for grabs on Giztop.

The phone is customized by Polish video game developer CD Projekt and OnePlus, giving avid gamers that have restlessly been waiting to get their hands on Cyberpunk 2077, something to cheer about. The Cyberpunk 2077 limited edition OnePlus 8T was teased during the OnePlus 8T conference, but the company did not divulge a lot of details about the device at the time. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer later hosted a special event to take the wraps off this phone.

The packaging doesn’t align with the phone’s future digital technology theme but offers a nostalgic taste of packaging when I was a kid. The eye-catching long cell phone box and the gift badge and kept separately just like displays. While there are six different badges, the retail version comes with one random badge, making it harder for consumers to collect them all without burning a hole in their pockets.

Yellow is the official Cyberpunk 2077 color, so it is hardly surprising that the packaging box uses the same bright yellow tint. Looking at it closely, I came across another mystery. The yellow package is merely a layer of hard paper that has a map of the game scene “Night City” hidden inside it. This map even shows the streets.

The phone case is black-tinted, with yellow OnePlus and the game’s logo. Aside from that, the limited edition is written in English on the side. Apart from the Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition OnePlus 8T’s outward appearance, its main configuration is also important. This device boasts a similar configuration to the OnePlus 8T. You can check it out below:

    1. Display: 6.55 inches, resolution 2400×1080, 120Hz OLED flexible direct screen
    2. Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
    3. RAM, ROM: 12GB+256GB
    4. Cameras: 48MP wide angle+16MP ultra-wide-angle, 5MP macro, 2MP black and white
    5. Battery: 4500mAh capacity with 45W PD fast charge and 65W Warp flash charge support

Since the back has been redesigned, the weight and thickness of the phone have slightly increased. The most notable change at the back includes the camera module. The original camera module was a rounded corner matrix extended to the upper left corner of the rear. The new glass module stretches to the right, extending towards the same margin position as the left, The company calls this newfangled appearance as “panoramic sunroof design.”

Note that the extra part will not be free. Aside from the numbers 2077, the phone has a mysterious code that will be seen in different places in the game. The middle portion of the fuselage is Snow AG glass, which has a stone-like texture, and rough marble-like surface.

Moreover, there is forged carbon-textured glass at the bottom. You can see some lines if you look closely at the light, and it looks like glass abrasion. The Cyberpunk 2077 logo has also been placed here, alongside a light yellow at the bottom, mimicking the color theme of the game.

OnePlus touted the phone as one of the company’s most customized systems. In addition to visual customization, the phone has also replaced the sound effects of the auditory part with game sounds for an even more immersive experience.

This customized theme is different from the regular OnePlus 8T. Aside from the boot animation, the overall design element, app icons, system dynamics, wallpapers, and other aspects seem to draw inspiration from Cyberpunk 2077. The camera features a couple of customized filters including Northern California and Night City, which can be used for capturing photos and recording videos.

On the downside, the accessories use the company’s own color scheme. The white charging head, however, comes with a Cyberpunk 2077 logo printed on it. The charging cable is the same as the one available with the regular version, and the original OnePlus 8T red C to C wire comes with 65W Warp flash charge support.

The OnePlus 8T was unveiled last month, following the launch of the OnePlus 8 series earlier this year. Reports about CD Projekt and OnePlus’ collaboration began doing the rounds online two weeks ago, and with the pre-orders opening up, OnePlus launched a new trailer along with a slew of product shots.

Featuring contrasting textures and neon highlights, the phone has been radically overhauled to coincide with the game’s sci-fi dystopian aesthetic. The camera housing is the biggest difference between the special edition and the vanilla handset. It is placed on top of the matte black chassis, which bridges the gap between the glass panel at the bottom and the camera module. The glass panel is another new addition.

The OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 version has already been pre-sold and will go up for sale only in a 12GB RAM+256G ROM variant for 3999 yuan. You can visit this link to place your order through Giztop.
