The design of the R9000P 2021 is in line with the style of the series, while the mold looks like a modified version of last year’s R7000P. There is a large Y logo in the middle of the A side without the circular part. When the power is on, it shows a white backlight.

There are ridges on the left and right sides, giving the A side of the device a three-dimensional look rather than a plane appearance like the R7000P. The rear portion of the device has also been morphologically adjusted.

The edge of the fuselage near the front end uses a wedge-shaped design. This highly portable 16-inch product weighs about 2.58kg and is 21.7mm thin.

The screen features an ultra-narrow-sided full-screen design, offering a refresh rate of 165Hz and brightness of 500nits. It offers a 2K resolution of 2560×1600 pixels with a screen ratio of 16:10, and the vertical field of view is wider.

The screen reaches 100% sRGB color gamut coverage, supports Dolby Vision, supports HDR 400, supports G-Sync/FreeSync Premium, and uses DC non-stroboscopic dimming. It has passed Rheinland Low Blue Light and supports X-Rite color management.

The left side of the fuselage features a USB 3.2 Gen 2 TYPE-C interface, which supports DP1.4 video transmission and is equipped with a 3.5mm headset jack. The right side houses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 TYPE-A interface and a camera switch.

There’s an Ethernet port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 TYPE-C interface that supports PD charging protocol, two ordinary USB 3.2 Gen 1 TYPE-A interfaces, one HDMI 2.1 interface, and one USB that supports power-off charging 3.2 Gen 1 TYPE-A interface and power jack on the rear of the fuselage.

The C side of the Lenovo Legion R9000P 2021 features a power button in the middle area. It supports a backlight and is compact. The machine has not compromised on the arrow key design, and all four keys use full-size keycaps.

Moreover, the independent numeric keypad also provides great convenience to users. The touchpad uses an integrated design.

The Lenovo Legion R9000P 2021 packs an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, which is an 8-core 16-thread mobile processor with strong multi-threading performance, based on Zen 3 architecture and TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process.

The Ryzen 7 5000 series has a three-level cache that reaches 16MB. The reference clock frequency is 3.2GHz, the maximum acceleration clock frequency can reach 4.4GHz, the default TDP is 45W, and the cTDP is 35-54W.

Let’s check out the processor’s performance level through testing, starting with the single-core and multi-core performance evaluation of CPU-Z. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor has a single-core score of 515.4 and a multi-core score of 5824.6.

In the CINEBENCH R15/R20 test standard, the processor R15 single-core score 234cb, multi-core score 2144cb; R20 single-core score 550cb, multi-core score 5043cb, in terms of single-core and multi-core performance as compared to the previous generation of product has considerably improved.

In the GeekBench 5 test standard, the processor scored 1424 single-core and 8386 multi-core. As an 8-core processor, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H’s application efficiency has raised quite a few eyebrows, so let’s dive into the efficiency of this processor in video encoding and V-Ray rendering.

First off, let’s do the H.264 Benchmark test. Rendering 2500 Frames takes about 40 seconds and the video coding efficiency is excellent. V-Ray Benchmark assesses the processor’s physical rendering capabilities.

The test showed that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor rendering sampling result is 9097 samples. The various tests show that whether it is used as a game or productivity processor, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H can handle load computing tasks.

The full line of RTX 30 graphics cards comes with a full-blooded version of the RTX 30 graphics card, providing reliable performance to users. The Lenovo Legion R9000P 2021’s NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU has a maximum power of 130W.

Despite being the entry model of the Ampere architecture graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU is relative to RTX 2060. It supports 6GB GDDR6 memory, bus bandwidth 192bit, core frequency 900MHz, memory frequency 1750MHz, and boost frequency 1425MHz.

Check out the scores of the 3DMark software below:

When the three modes of Time Spy, Port Royal, and FireStrike Extreme were tested, the graphics card scored 8923, 5161, and 10332. This shows that the performance of the GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU is almost similar to the previous generation RTX 2080Super Max-Q.

    Gaming Experience

The game used for testing was Assassin’s Creed: Hall of Valor, with picture quality-adjusted to a very high level and the FPS limit, and vertical synchronization turned off. The game was played on a default screen resolution of 2560×1600 pixels.

When the Legion R9000P 2021 runs the benchmark of Assassin’s Creed: Hall of Valor, the lowest frame rate is 17fps, the highest is 96fps, and the final average frame rate is 42fps. This game can be played smoothly at a 2K resolution.

The second game used for testing was Red Dead Redemption 2. The picture quality preset was adjusted to the highest level and the resolution was 2K. Let’s check out the test results.

The last test game is Cyberpunk 2077. Before the test, the light tracking level is set to super, the DLSS option is the default auto, while the resolution is set to default 2K. When DLSS is automatic, the average frame rate is maintained at about 40FPS.

The average frame rate can be increased to about 60FPS under the same scene if DLSS is changed to performance mode. In the case of DLSS in the performance mode, the Legion R9000P 2021 achieves an average of 58FPS fluency and a high frame rate of 2K resolution.

    Storage Performance

Let’s check out more details about the storage performance, comprehensive performance, and heat dissipation performance.

The machine is equipped with a 512GB PCIe SSD. When the queue depth=32 and the number of threads=1, it can continuously read 3432.6MB/s and continue to write 2695.3MB/s; the queue depth=1, the number of threads= At 1, 4K random read 48.87MB/s, 4K random write 157.3MB/s. The performance of the hard disk reaches the high-end PCIe 3.0 SSD level.

To evaluate the comprehensive performance, the Extended mode of PCMark10 was used. The device scored as high as 9539 points in common basic functions. In the productivity project test, the score is 9240.

In terms of digital content creation, due to the impressive graphics performance of the GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, it score reaches 9513 points. Its game performance score is as high as 16448 points.

As far as heat dissipation is concerned, the Legion series has been quite impressive. Let’s check out the Legion R9000P 2021 performed.

The Legion series allows users to quickly switch performance modes through the Fn+Q shortcut key. The beast mode was activated during the test, which was performed through AIDA 64 and Furmark. Tested with CPU single roaster and CPU+GPU dual roaster.

In the AIDA64 single copy machine test, the release of processor power consumption is stable around 64.9W, while the core frequency remained stable at 3.66GHz, the average core temperature can be controlled to 85.4℃, and the overall heat dissipation performance was good.

In the AIDA64 and Furmark dual baking machine tests, the processor power consumption remained stable around 44.84W. The core frequency is 3.16GHz, and the processor core temperature is controlled at an average of 89.4°C.

The Lenovo Legion R9000P 2021 comes in two different configurations, including the 130W power consumption RTX 3060 version and a high-end model. Both models are equipped with 140W power consumption RTX 3070 unique display.

The evaluation shows that the device maintains a high level of heat dissipation adjustment and high performance of the hardware. The Legion series has maintained the consistently high level of the series by its good performance tuning and excellent industrial design.
