iQOO Z3 Review: A Gaming-Centric Phone With Snapdragon 768G, 55W Fast Charging, And 120Hz Refresh Rate

iQOO launched its budget gaming-focused smartphone dubbed the iQOO Z3 in China earlier this month. Currently available for just $309 on Giztop, the iQOO Z3 boasts an impressive array of features, including 55W fast charge support.

Moreover, it comes with a five-layer liquid cooling system for a superior gaming experience. Let us check out more details about the device in this review.

    Design

iQOO Z3 comes in two color options including deep space and nebula. The nebula color scheme is similar to the Vivo S9.in terms of style. The fuselage uses the frosted silver ion coating process, which gives it a delicate look but does not protect it from fingerprints.

iQOO Z3 adopts a design that resembles the previous generation iQOO Z1x. The difference, however, is that it has a couple of big and one small camera module layout.

The bottom and top of the phone using a crescent-shaped concave design. The top of the fuselage houses the SIM card. Moreover, it features an LCD screen with a side fingerprint.

In terms of dimensions, iQOO Z3 measures 163.95 × 75.3 × 8.5mm and weighs 185.5g, which is 14g lighter than the iQOO Z1x. In terms of accessories, the phone comes with chargers, protective cases, and even mobile phone film.

The phone features a 6.58-inch LCD full screen with a resolution of 2408 × 1080 pixels, screen contrast of 1500:1, and a screen brightness of 460nit. In 2021, when most phone makers are going in for OLED screens, iQOO has resorted to using an LCD screen, much to the delight of many LCD parties.

iQOO Z3 uses a water drop screen design. The screen-to-body ratio of 90.61 percent, which is not lower than punch-screen phones. On top of that, it supports a 120Hz refresh rate and supports 180Hz touch sampling rate.

The phone can display 120 frames per second and is idle for some competitive FPS games because the high brush of the screen determines the high frame of the game. The screen of the iQOO Z3 supports DCI-P3 wide color gamut and HDR10, with excellent color performance.

    Gaming experience

iQOO is a pioneer in the field of fast charging and is only the first batch of 120W super flash charging. As a thousand yuan phone, the iQOO Z3 supports 55W fast charge. The Z3 can be charged from 15 to 60 percent in 15 minutes, and the fastest is 52 minutes to charge a 4400mAh battery to 100 percent.

The phone can be charged to 50 percent in 20 minutes, and fully charged in 57 minutes. The Z3 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G processor, with UFS2.2 and “memory fusion” technology, under the hood.

Memory fusion technology helps make mobile phones through algorithm optimization. Part of the ROM is expanded to RAM in the system details of several iQOO phones, where it shows that the memory is 8 + 3GB. This is memory fusion technology, which is equivalent to 11GB RAM.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G processor was released in May 2020. It integrates the NSA/SA dual-mode 5G baseband, has a fifth-generation AIE engine, along an upgraded Adreno 620 GPU. For the GPU, the Kryo 475 frequency reaches 2.8GHz, which is 15 percent higher than the Snapdragon 765G, while Adreno 620 is 15 percent higher than the Snapdragon 765G.

Aside from that, the Snapdragon 768G supports a 120Hz screen, some Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, driver upgrades, and more. In a score test on iQOO Z3 through AnTuTu and Geekbench, the phone’s running score performance is good.

Let’s test it through Honor of Kings, which has the highest image quality and highest frame rate, stable 60 frames. iQOO Z3 became a straight line in the game of about 10 minutes.

The next game is Peace Elite. Smooth picture quality, extreme frame rate, and 9 minutes game average frame rate are 59FPS. The game’s HDR HD + ultra-high frame rate, 20-minute average frame rate is 39.8FPS.

The above data shows that iQOO Z3 delivers a good gaming experience while playing games like Glory of the King and Peace Elite. Compared with other devices such as Snapdragon 888, the frame rate is no longer a gap, and the players can enjoy higher picture quality performance.

iQOO Z3 has various features such as Eagle Eye Display Enhancement 2.0, Game Eye 2.0, 4D Game Vibration, Game Companion, and Game Box that enhance the overall gaming experience. The phone is also equipped with a five-layer liquid cooling system.

According to the official statement, it has a super liquid cooling heat pipe, multilayer three-dimensional graphite heat sink, high-conductivity heat dissipation copper foil, thermal gel, and 6 temperature sensors. In other words, iQOO Z3 will not be too hot during charging or playing games.

This can also be confirmed with a temperature measuring gun. After playing Yuan Shen for 30 minutes, the phone’s body temperature remained under 40 degrees Celcius. At the time of charging, the body temperature remained under 38 degrees Celcius, even in the early peak power charging, the body didn’t become hot.

    Cameras

iQOO Z3 uses a combination of 64MP ultra-clear main camera and 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, 4cm macro lens, which supports 4K/60fps video shooting and Super Night Scene 2.0, Super Night Scene Selfie 2.0, video EIS anti-shake, smart sports tracking, and more. The main camera is Samsung GW3, with an f/1.79 aperture and 64MP.

iQOO’s polishing of GW3 is decent, whether it is resolution or edge. The image quality and the white balance performance are in line with the performance of this gear.

The color of iQOO Z3 is gorgeous with higher saturation. It is perfect for shooting some bright scenes.

With the main camera and large aperture, the samples are pleasing in various scenes including food and flowers. The color consistency between the super wide-angle and the main camera is relatively good.

Rather than super macro shooting, the main camera seems more ideal. The latter has a better picture quality and depth of field performance.

    Verdict

iQOO Z3 is a competitive product with decentralization of flagship features including the Hawkeye 2.0, 4D game vibration, and game companion. Moreover, fast charging and temperature control while playing games have impressive performances as well.

Other parameters include 55W flash charge, 120Hz high screen refresh, 14 high frame rate game support, Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G, memory fusion, and UFS 2.2. You can visit this link to get your hands on the iQOO Z3 for $309 from Giztop.
