Android ended dessert names for Android versions with the latest Android 10 update, but it seems the sweet spirit of the dessert names haven’t died internally yet.
Android’s vice president of engineering Dave Burke revealed that Android still uses dessert names as the code name for Android versions. The dessert code for Android 11 is Red Velvet Cake, or as its abbreviation RVC.

Last year Dave Burke said that the era where Android versions get codenamed after dessert is over. Android 10 was codenamed Android Q, but apparently internally it was known as Android Quince Tart internally.
Dave Burke later confirmed that the developer does not refer to the dessert name in the AOSP code. There, it’s simply referred to as Android 11R, or Android 11. It’s still sad to see dessert names go, but at least there’s still of hint of it behind the scenes.
