OPPO Ace2 Review: 40W wireless fast charge, no opponent on the surface Before I say today's lead OPPO Ace2, I'd like to talk about another brand: Palm. Not many people are familiar with the brand, a once PDA dominion that has been ruthlessly abandoned in the smartphone age. While the brand is almost a thing of the past, you can see its shadow in today's smartphones, including card-style task backgrounds, gesture interactions, and wireless charging. As you may not know, Palm first added wireless charging to Palm Pre in 2009, when the wireless charging alliance Qi wasn't in place. 1 At the time, the charging speed, full of a 1150mAh phone also takes two or three hours, but still by many consumers. It can be seen that the user for this kind of non-"line" demand, is real. Unfortunately, in the next decade or so, charging speed has been a key factor hindering the popularity of wireless charging. Today, OPPO adds 40W wireless flash charging to the Ace2 model, which is the fastest wireless charge in production today. So what changes will OPPO Ace2 bring to today's wireless charging experience or the entire wireless charging world? 2 Looks like a cell phone, and it's another phone. When I first saw OPPO Ace2, the first feeling i had was "good thick" and the second feeling was "it should be heavy". In fact, OPPO Ace2 is 0.45mm thinner than its predecessor, while the thickness gap is less than 1mm compared to the OPPO Reno3 Pro, which is known for its thinness. After a closer look, it was discovered that OPPO Ace2 gave me the first impression of the "Dunkirk" because of its straight-screen design. Because the front is a straight screen, so whether from the front of the two-sided border, or from the side to see the waistline, even if its border size and medium frame thickness are normal level, but visually it is more than including Reno3 Pro, including the front and back double-surface phone to suffer some. It is said that straight male is a visual animal, and that is why it is often because of appearance of many things themselves misunderstanding. OPPO Ace2 is one of them. The feeling of putting OPPO Ace2 in hand is "the wrong judgment on the front." From the outside, it feels like it's a phone with more than 200g, but it's actually only 185g. Even if you're surprised not to have started the 171g OPPO Reno3 Pro for the first time, it still gives you a sense of contrast. 3 In fact, this sense of contrast, in addition to the appearance of judgment, but also from I knew it early some configuration, this point we will talk about later. Go back to the look, and the phone is equipped with a 6.55-inch hole-in-the-hole screen in front of it. The size of the hole should be consistent with the OPPO Reno3 Pro from the naked eye, and the size of the same hole-in-one screen phone is also well controlled, and it is easier to accept than the "hole-in-the-hole screen" stuffed into two cameras. 4 As for the mid-frame section, OPPO Ace2 does not use metal, but instead of plastic, apparently for weight control reasons. Also quad, OPPO Reno3 Pro uses a vertical arrangement on the left, while OPPO Ace2 uses an "Oreo" design arranged on the center axis. 5 On closer inspection, there is still a lot of design thinking about this "Oreo". Including the chamfer ingress of the corner, the chamfer ingress up and down the four directions of the digging design, as well as can reflect different angles of light, the formation of a flow ingress effect of the outer ring, all make these four cameras appear a lot of refinement. 40W wireless charging, Just surprised not just by only speed In the previous paragraph when it came to weight, I said that another factor affecting my judgment on OPPO Ace2 weight was that I knew some of the configurations of the phone in advance. The 6.55-inch screen, the external X55 5G baseband, and the 4000mAh battery are a little bit more sophisticated with stacking and device selection, and it's not hard to control it within 200g. The difficulty is that OPPO also has a 40W wireless fast charging module in Ace2. In the past, the wireless charging power is mostly no more than 10W, in recent years, many of the new wireless fast charging is also around 20W. OPPO's Air VOOC wireless flash-up power reached 40W, even faster than the wired charging of many phones. 6 What about the actual experience? There was a little episode while doing 0 to 100% wireless charging tests. The result of the first test was completely full of 72 minutes, 16 minutes more than the official 56 minutes. After turning over the official data, I found that the original OPPO Ace2 wireless flash has a feature called "Smart Mute Mode", and this feature is turned on by default. Simply put, this feature automatically reduces the power of charging when charging at night, so that the cooling fan of the charging base does not need to be turned on at full speed. It happened that I was doing my first test, at night. Helplessly, in order to test the authenticity of the Air VOOC, I also had to put up with sleep, turn off the "smart mute mode", re-test. Eventually, after turning off the smart mute feature and letting the charging dock out fully, the 5-minute phone charges 12%, 15 minutes 32%, half an hour 62%, and fully full ymes takes only 51 minutes, even 5 minutes faster than the official data. But what surprised me most was not just its speed, but above its charging curve. 7 As we usually know, most wireless charging is generally in front of the relatively high rate, to the middle and later part of the rate will continue to decrease. But when you look at the charging curve of OPPO Ace2, it's even going to become a straight line. As you can see, from the 10th minute to the 40th minute, it is perfect to maintain the speed of 10% per 5 minutes. When the contrast turns on the charging curve in smart mute mode, you'll find that for a while it's charging at 10 percent every 5 minutes, and then down to 5 percent every 5 minutes. It can be inferred that it should be the first test, at about 20 minutes of charging, just to trigger the low power charge time. The charging rate will drop by half after the trigger, and then it will remain very stable. One problem that needs to be addressed in order to maintain high power output for longer periods of wireless charging is cooling. 8 The charging plate part is not really a whole plane. Instead, it was designed to be hollowed out. In this way, the phone put up to charge, not close to the charging plate, but is framed, there is a certain distance between the two. And the left side of the charging plate also has a blowing port, when the phone put up to charge, the air outlet will automatically out of the wind. In this way, the external air is blown through the blowtorch to the back of the phone, absorbing heat, and then draining from the gap on the right side of the charging base, creating a cooling air duct. 9 So, when wireless charging power reaches 40W, what changes will be made to our usage habits? Of course, everyone's situation is different, so I just say from my usage habits, give you a reference. I had two wireless charging plates, one at the end of the bed, one on my desk, and two charging plates with the iPhone X power both 7.5W, which actually used at a speed not much worse than the ancestral "Five Fu IAn". Put on the bedside that, I have developed a habit, every day when sleep will put the phone on the charge. Because you get seven or eight hours of sleep a day, even if it's only 7.5W, the phone must be full the next day. 10 Put it on my desk, quite the opposite, and I've got a habit of not using it. Because I often write twenty minutes and look at the five-minute mobile phone, sometimes I charge these twenty minutes of electricity, but also cannot match the five minutes I spent electricity. Because of this, sometimes when I need to go out to work temporarily, my cell phone is often without electricity. Over time, I also no longer use the desk that wireless charging base, direct play to the fast when no electricity plug in the wired fast charge. Because the charging speed is fast enough, even when you pick up your phone frequently, you can make sure that the phone's battery is increasing rapidly overall. This means that the devices on hand that support the qi protocol wireless charging can also be used to charge wirelessly, and of course the power can only be determined by your device. 11 Many wireless-enabled phones now support reverse wireless charging, and OPPO Ace2 is no exception. That way, you can also charge up to 10W with another phone or headset from OPPO Ace2 in the event that you can't find power. It's also said here that the 65W wired flash on OPPO Ace2. As the OPPO killer, Super VOOC 2.0 65W is basically the best on the market today. Measured 5-minute sepsis 24%, 15 minutes’ charge 58%, 32 minutes full, whether it's a short charge or full charge, it's great. 90Hz vision encounter 180Hz operation As a phone with a major gaming experience, OPPO Ace2 is not a worry when it came to performance configurations. The Dragon 865SoC, LPDDR5, UFS 3.0, the "speed three-piece set" are all matched. The only thing that's more unfortunate in configuration is that while dual-mode 5G is supported, wi-Fi 6 is not supported. The OPPO Ace2 has a screen refresh rate of 90Hz, and the increase in fluidity is visible to the naked eye when playing games that fit high frame rates. 12 In addition, OPPO Ace2's touch sampling rate has been increased from 135Hz to 180Hz from the previous generation, which allows you to respond faster when you tap the screen. If it's on the game, faster response speed means that if you shoot with the same gun as your opponent and tap it at the same time, because the response is faster, the bullet will hit the other person first. 13 It is well known that thermal performance is the key to affecting whether movie games can stay running smoothly for a long time. In order to do a better job of cooling, so that the game can maintain a high frame rate of operation, the research and development team also spent a lot of effort. Now many mobile phones are in-house to add liquid-cooled VC. It is common practice to bring the heat from the upper motherboard area of the phone to the lower part of the phone with only one vertical VC. The inside of the OPPO Ace2 has a larger T-shaped VC, with a horizontal section covering more than 80% of the entire board, covering almost all the hot spots. Coupled with multi-layer graphite materials and the addition of fast-absorption, slow-release new heat-absorbing materials, it can be said that OPPO Ace2 in terms of heat dissipation. So what's the actual experience? 14 In the Peace Elite 90-frame mode, the next innings is about 30 minutes down, the frame rate remains around 90fps, and there is no frame drop and caton in the middle, the heat is only a bit warm in terms of body sense. Daytime imaging, the photo hair color tendency will be relatively light, although the first look of the impact is not too strong, but in fact is also relatively resistant to see. The details are good. Shooting in automatic mode, OPPO Ace 2 still gets a good dynamic range. Night environment inside, the photo performance is actually ok, the overall brightness of the picture is sufficient. However, the camera's auto-processing marks are obvious, and sometimes there is the awkwardness of an HDR transition. If you adjust the HDR algorithm a little bit, the photo will be more balanced. 15 16 17 18 19 In addition to taking photos, the OPPO Ace2 features stereo dual speakers, a Z-axis linear motor, and, with the award-winning ColorOS for nearly two years, OPPO Ace2 is fully compliant with the requirements of acting as a master machine. In fact, from the first generation ace, OPPO did not position this series as a traditional sense of the game phone, but is a "game experience in the first place the main machine."
